Delivered in partnership with local employment programs this workshop series is designed for people preparing to enter the workforce. Participants learn how to manage difficult situations more effectively, communicate clearly, and develop an understanding of workplace culture.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The goals of the SKILLS FOR THE WORKPLACE course are to:

  • Train individuals to become more aware and responsible for their own behaviors.
  • Promote healthy interpersonal skills among employees.
  • Assist in contributing to a workplace culture that is collaborative and inclusive.

The objectives are to:

  • Learn and understand what beliefs, values and attitudes contribute to one’s conflict style.

  • Assess one’s own dominant conflict style and understand that each conflict style is a choice.

  • Understand the difference between Position, Issue and Interest.

  • Understand the benefits of a co-operative approach to resolving conflict with 1/ co-workers, 2/ customers and 3/ supervisors.

  • Understand how Power impacts conflict.

  • Develop some skills around using language that frames issues collaboratively.

  • Use communications skills effectively
  • Create and maintain a collaborative tone in simulated conflict situations.

  • Assess and explore issues within simulated conflicts.

These skills are highly valued by employers and completion of the program gives graduates an edge when being considered for a position.
