COMPASS is an Introduction to communication, conflict management and anger awareness. The workshops provide participants with the opportunity to:
Learn positive conflict resolution skills
Build on existing communication skills
Gain insight into conflict styles
Practice negotiating around everyday issues
Learn to effectively use assertive behaviours
Practice the skills learned in a variety of everyday situations
COMPASS will give participants the skills needed to navigate through difficult situations with positive results. The methods taught in COMPASS equip participants with tools for life. This includes basic conflict management knowledge, and the resolution skills necessary to begin developing a more collaborative conflict management style. Through games, role-plays, personal experience, and open discussion, group members learn and practice effective communication and problem solving skills. Individuals gain experience in conflict management, problem-solving, and a host of options for dealing with conflict. Participants will also strengthen their existing communication skills. These tools are proven to empower individuals, improve interpersonal relationships and increase self-esteem.
COMPASS is provided free to low-income individuals thanks to the generous support of the Provincial Employees Community Service Fund, Playtime Bingo and the Provincial Gaming Commission.
